What is Helium?
Helium is an intelligent endurance training app for iOS and Apple Watch. It is a set of tools that helps runners get better at long distance training: From finding a good training plan, to executing and logging runs, to interpreting training data.
Who is the target customer?
Any runner with an improvement mindset can benefit from using Helium, but the current product is designed with the beginner-intermediate athlete in mind. Whether you're just getting started with endurance training and looking for a "Couch to 5K" plan, or are a more advanced runner that wants to improve, Helium can help make training easier and more fun.

If you're the type of person that needs a lot of motivation and hands-on coaching, then Helium is probably not for you. But if you already have the desire and willingness to start a DIY fitness improvement journey, then you'll probably find it useful.
Why would someone want this?
There is no right or wrong way to run, but there is definitely a right and wrong way to train. Most beginner runners don't train with a structured plan and often get frustrated by lack of results or progress. To improve fitness, you need a plan. But sometimes the process of training can be confusing and stressful.

I spoke to dozens of runners about their experiences with training and learned about many common problems people encounter when trying to implement a training plan: Finding the right training plan for your individual fitness level, making sure you're following the plan correctly while on a run, and making sense of training data to understand if you're making fitness progress.

Helium solves all these problems so you can focus on the task of running instead of struggling with the details of training planning and execution.
How is Helium different than [insert other running app]?
Many of the existing "running tracker" apps don't focus on training and improvement. Some of the most popular apps don't even have training plans integrated into the app user experience! Those that do often follow a one-size-fits all approach. Several of these apps are more focused on e-commerce instead of training (trying to sell you clothing and shoes).

Helium is focused 100% on fitness improvement. Under the hood, it uses a zone-based training system that is proven to be effective at producing real improvement. Instead of relying on generic training plans, Helium learns your individual effort zones based on your past workout data and constructs workouts and training plans that are customized to your specific zones. It uses these zones to guide your workouts live, so you can always be sure you're training at the right intensity at the right time.

Helium goes beyond step counts and mileage counters. It analyzes thousands of data points per workout to calculate performance, and packages them in easy-to-understand metrics like Cardio Efficiency and Daily Strain.
Who is the team behind Helium?
Hi! 👋 I'm Mike. You can read more about me here, but a quick summary is that I'm a solo indie developer who designed and built Helium, along with help from some great advisors in the endurance training industry.
How much does it cost?
Helium is $59.99 per year, with a 14-day free trial.
Does Helium require an Apple Watch?
Helium integrates with the Apple Health app, so it can read and analyze workouts from any app, but users will only get full benefit of all features when using Apple Watch. For example, the real-time pacing assistant is currently only available on Apple Watch with watchOS 7.
Do I need Helium if I'm already working with a trainer or coach?
While Helium has built-in training plans already available, users can choose to create their own custom interval workouts if they have a coach or plan that they are already working with. Users will still get all the benefits of real-time pacing assistant and training metrics that they can then share with a coach or trainer.
